Quilliam is the world’s first counter-extremism think tank. We were founded in 2007 by Maajid Nawaz a former Islamist ideologue and Ed Husain the celebrated author of ‘The Islamist’, short listed for the George Orwell Prize for best political writing.
Our mission is to challenge Islamists’ extremist ideology to expose the intellectual bankruptcy of their world view; promote political pluralism as an antidote to Islamism; and inspire positive change so that Muslims and others live harmoniously as citizens, not as separatist communities.
Quilliam aims to influence two main audience groups: governmental policy makers, politicians, influential leaders as well as the general public.
Innovative research, policy recommendations and briefings are used to promote our policy recommendations and the media is our tool for public awareness and education.
In just over two years, our media influence worldwide has been impressive. Many people have praised on our indigenous PR machine, which is key to our mission. This has been highlighted by appearances on Larry King Live, CBS 60 minutes and Newsnight, often reaching audiences of over 14 million.

We are a young, dynamic and highly committed team and we want our image to reflect that. Cogent Design has been with us from the start. They designed our identity and web site and worked with us on a very successful launch event at the British Museum, generating TV and press coverage.

Quilliam requires intelligent and experienced partners to understand the impact and sensitivities of our work. We have an almost symbiotic relationship with Cogent and they understand us instantly. They also understand visual language and can predict its effect – this is extremely beneficial to us.
Cogent plays a key role in virtually all our public facing material – the most important part of our work. They have gone on to provide design and production management for our publications and reports and training for our website content management system.
